Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week was first held in March of 2006 and has evolved tremendously since then. This year, Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week was held on March 13th through March 19th. To spread awareness during MS week, Address MS had four days full of educational activities.
The first activity Address MS planned for MS awareness week occurred on Monday, March 14th. To start off the week, there was a five-question quiz for people to complete on the Address MS Instagram page. The questions were general facts about Multiple Sclerosis, and the answers were posted later that night. On Tuesday the 15th, a post about the history of the National MS Society was posted. This brief summary of the National MS Society described when, where, and why the National MS Society was founded and who founded it.
On the 16th, there was an Instagram takeover so that people could see the day in the life of someone living with MS. Rebecca Rocke took over the Instagram story, and she showed off her daily routine and talked about living with MS. Viewers were also given the opportunity to submit any questions they had about MS for Rocke to answer.
To wrap it up, on Thursday, March 17th, Address MS held their main event for Multiple Sclerosis Awareness Week. On the 17th, Address MS held a virtual speaker panel where five different guest speakers were able to talk about their experiences with MS. Attendees were able to sign up beforehand and had the opportunity to learn about MS directly from the firsthand experiences of others The five speakers - Noelle Connolly, Rebecca Rocke, Kathy Chester, Jessica Lovato, and Jess - shared their different experiences with MS, from being diagnosed, adapting to and overcoming challenges. Towards the end of the panel, attendees were able to ask any questions they had about MS.
Throughout the week, Address MS helped spread awareness regarding Multiple Sclerosis with various activities, events and posts. Address MS also provided an outlet for interested individuals to ask their questions about MS to those living with this disease through events like the Instagram takeover and the virtual speaker panel. While the next MS awareness week won’t be until March of 2023, Address MS will continue to spread awareness, so make sure to keep a lookout for upcoming events!
