M.S. Walk Recap

On Saturday, May 28th, Address MS had one of its biggest events of the year, which was an MS Walk. Members of the community joined together to walk along the WorldTrail in order to raise funds toward research for a cure, and it was a great success!

Many people attended to walk in South Riding and support people who have been diagnosed with multiple sclerosis.

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society, a non-profit organization that is dedicated to advocating for and educating on multiple sclerosis, created Walk MS in order to raise funds for the ongoing research for an MS cure. Since MS is currently an autoimmune disease without a cure, it is very important that the medical field continues research for MS regarding treatments, risk factors, and medical therapies. Ever since its founding, Walk MS, a sector of the NMSS, has raised millions of dollars all over the world by holding walks that are dedicated to MS warriors, especially those who have difficulty with mobility.

Address MS recently held their own walk-in South Riding on the WorldTrail path, in which people attended to support research for multiple sclerosis. It was a fantastic opportunity for individuals in the local community to come together and raise funds and awareness for multiple sclerosis, a fact that is especially important when considering the lack of public understanding of the disease. Nandini Kotamurthy, a member of the journalism team who attended the walk said, “The walk was so amazing for spreading awareness for multiple sclerosis, and the funds raised are amazing for the foundation!”

In total, fifty-five people attended the MS Walk held by Address MS.

During the walk, Address MS was able to raise $1,033 that will be given to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society to contribute to the advancement in scientific research and understanding of MS. With this money, scientists will be able to make new discoveries, whether it be for a cure or a better understanding of how exactly it affects people’s immune and nervous systems. This MS Walk was just one of thousands held all over the country and the world. These kinds of events allow people with and without MS to have a greater bond with the people around them in addition to collecting money that goes to scientific research.
